Día de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday held on November 1 and 2. It is not a Mexican Halloween, and it is not about fear. It rests on a belief that came out of Indigenous Mexico long before the Spanish arrived and later folded into the Catholic calendar: that death ends a life but not a relationship.
In “ Murmurs of the Afterlife” I present a veiled women whose richly painted face and beaded rosary rest on a single finger pressed to her lips. I worked with deep blues, fiery oranges, and ivory highlights so the contrasts heighten her direct gaze, which conveys solemnity alongside a quiet defiance. Vertical lines and layered forms imply a passage between the visible world and what lies beyond an image that asks for interpretation rather than explanation.

In celebration of this beautiful heartfelt tradition.
I present “ Bloom of Remembrance” a portrait that portrays a face framed by blooming flowers in deep blue, fiery orange and earthy red. Delicate vertical lines traverse the surface, suggesting memories held in fragments, while the subject’s direct gaze expresses both tenderness and a quiet, stoic strength. Floral motifs arise beside the face as symbols of renewal, loss, and remembrance; the interplay of color and deliberate brushwork intensifies that tension.

“Night Bloom Catrina” I painted this portrait to portray a figure who balances strength and reflection., Vivid flowers and intricate blue markings frame a steady, intense gaze; deep cobalt set against fiery orange and crimson creates a deliberate contrast. Layered lines and textured brushwork were used to build a raw, emotional presence that I wanted to make palpable.
